Pegasus will hire a new RN grad

Home Health Care Is a Dream Career for A New RN Grad

New RN Grads Discover That Home Health Care Is a Dream Career That Is Challenging and Satisfying

Congratulations new RN grad! Your degree is the entrance to your dream career. Pegasus is here to help you make your dreams of a satisfying career of helping others come true.

In-home care is an expanding industry. Nurses are always in demand and never more so than in home health care. Although much of the growth is attributable to an aging population, patients released early from hospitals is also a factor.

Home health care nurses help their patients in a variety of ways, including:

  • Palliative care
  • Post-surgical care
  • Health and dietary advice
  • Monitoring medication and wellness
  • Ensuring that patients receive all prescribed treatments

The guideline for in-home care is to help the individual safely live where they’re most comfortable.

Experience Diversity In Patients And How You Help Them

In-home care is for any individual who needs help with the activities of daily living. Your duties might include assistance with basic activities, such as bathing. Other patients might need wound care or help with complex equipment.

Some patients require temporary care, such as those recovering from a fall. Others may require long-term or permanent care. You’ll discover that you may provide more than medical care.

Your patients may rely on you for emotional or physical support. Home care is holistic. You are caring for the whole person, not one aspect.

You are the patient’s advocate. You may become involved in helping patients obtain the equipment or services they need to remain at home. Improving a patient’s quality of life is what home care is all about.

In-home care is for individuals of every age. You may choose to care for a variety of conditions or patients. Or you may choose to specialize in pediatrics, geriatrics, or any age in between.

These kinds of choices are only part of flexibility that home health care nurses enjoy. You work as many days or hours as you choose. You also choose which days and hours you work.

You do have to travel from one home to the next. That does mean that sometimes you’re out in adverse weather conditions. Depending on where you live, you may have to deal with traffic jams.

Travel time isn’t all bad, however. Time alone in the car means that you can:

  • Decompress between patients
  • Do your charting and paperwork
  • Have time for personal activities
  • Get something to eat
  • Think

The break between patients means you are able to focus clearly on the next patient.

Home Health Care Benefits Patients and Nurses

Recovering or living at home has many benefits for patients. However, they may have worries that affect their recovery or overall health. Patients often have questions about:

  • What exactly the doctor has ordered
  • When and how do they take medications or what the dosage
  • What further treatments, if any, they need
  • What additional symptoms, if any, are important
  • What they can expect in terms of recovery

Answering questions like these reduce their worries and stress, which in turn improves their health.

Benefits for home care professionals include opportunities to:

  • Increase specific skills if you focus on a certain population
  • Obtain ongoing professional development
  • Use new technology designed for home care patients
  • Learn and apply new treatments and techniques

At Pegasus, we encourage our nurses to be proactive in caring for their patients.

Home health care focuses on the patient and their family. You have one-on-one time with your patients. You are able to customize your care to meet their individual needs.

You also see long-term improvement in your patients. You have the satisfaction of knowing that you’ve truly made a difference in someone’s life.
